One day, I was walking home from the gym when a reminder popped up on my phone: call Grandma.
I swiped it away. I had too much going on. I’d call her later.
Then I started wondering: When had we last talked? Did she know what I was actually up to? And when we did talk, how much stayed with her afterward? I talk fast. Probably too fast.
I wanted a way to share my life with her every month. Something she could enjoy at her own pace.
A letter she could read again
I knew an email wouldn’t feel the same to her. A physical letter would be familiar, nostalgic, and something she could hold onto. She could read it whenever she wanted, as many times as she liked.
I could picture her reading it again and probably crying happy tears each time.
That was the beginning of MailedIt.
Making it easier to follow through
Sending a letter meant drafting it on my computer, finding somewhere to print it, buying a pack of envelopes and a pack of stamps, then making a trip to the post office. For me, that could turn into half a day.
I wanted to make my part a ten-minute task: write, review, and approve the letter, with the printing and mailing taken care of afterward.
That’s what I built MailedIt to do. You can write every word yourself or start with a few notes and get help shaping a draft. You read it, make it yours, and approve it. MailedIt handles the printing and mailing. Nothing is mailed without your approval.
Something to hold onto between calls
I started with my grandma in mind. But the idea is for anyone who wants to share more of their life with someone they love.
A letter gives them something to keep, reread, and bring up the next time you talk.
